This term is jam packed with the Series 1 AMEB Music Theory examinations being held in May. Also the Series 1 AMEB Sydney and Wollongong practical music examinations being held from now to the end of term.

The School holidays are the perfect time to catch up on all music practice and music theory. All Students can also get a head start for the Music Term 2.

Successful Music Sight Reading

Ask anyone who is a good sight reader how they came to be so. They will tell you: because they do it ALL THE TIME. There is no-one ‘born’ a good sight reader, just like there is no-one who is born able to read English fluently without having read a lot. The only way to become a good sight reader is to sight read constantly.

There are many factors involved in successful music sight reading:

· Rhythm reading
· Random note reading
· Melodic pattern reading
· Chord reading
· Melody playing
· Fingering
· Two hands reading/playing
· Playing with dynamics/articulation
· Playing under pressure
